Global trees is about putting something back.

Inspiration for Global Trees came from an highly inspirational speech by former President Bill Clinton, in Glasgow during the summer. His message was "there is only one problem facing the world". Other speakers included Jack McConnell, First Minister of Scotland, and Steven Purcell, of Glasgow City Council.

Founders: Peter and Colette Grant, the founders of Grant Management, joined forces with Bob Holt, Chairman of Mears Group Plc to set up Global Trees. The whole idea is about putting something back, to make a difference...

An initial personal donation of £14,000 from the founders has helped set up this website and plant an initial 5,000 trees. To find out more, visit www.GrantManagement.co.uk and www.Mearsgroup.co.uk .

Global Trees is a registered charity so each individual donation counts for more, through taxation benefits.

Trees. The suppliers of sapling trees are AlbaTrees. Alba Trees are one of the leading suppliers of sapling trees to the UK wholesale market. www.albatrees.co.uk .

Planting. The forestry experts who carry out the planting are Central Scotland Forest Trust, a not-for-profit organisation. Chief Executive Simon Rennie has a lifetime of experience in forestry, gained from around the world. www.csft.co.uk/

All trees planted by your donations to Global Trees would not otherwise have been planted (ie they are truly additional).

Verification.  Independent verification is being carried out to ensure planting, and all our plantations are maintained as woodland in perpetuity.

Our First Private Donor. The first person to set up a monthly standing order to help, is Sarah Hughes, Edinburgh.

Our First Corporate Donor. This is Grant Management who have pledged £1 per employee per month.

Information Sources: We are particularly grateful to the Energy Saving Trust who have helped us understand the issues and provided many of the background facts for this website. Go to www.est.co.uk .  They have a great website well worth visiting. Another useful site for business is www.carbontrust.co.uk

>> More about Global Trees

We aim to help individuals and companies make a real difference.

Although we are currently only planting trees in the UK, Global Trees aims to raise money and plant trees across the world, to help counter carbon dioxide emissions. It will also help give employment and create enterprise in local communities.

Our vision as we grow is that we purchase low cost land in different continents, not used for farming and capable of growing trees. The land should ideally be accessible, and close to a local community. We aim to:

  • Raise funds to plant trees, through this website
  • Work with local communities to plant relevant trees, ideally using local seeds.
  • Potentially return land for farming or to help create jobs, providing we have first planted twice as many trees elsewhere.

Other ways to help. Please tell all your friends about Global Trees. We rely on word of mouth to help us make a real difference.

Updates. If you want to register for more information, you can do so at register@globaltrees.co.uk . We will send regular email updates on how you are helping us reverse global warming.

Trees to your door. You can order a tree for your home via the Woodland Trust's own website www.native-tree-shop.com  It will be delivered to your door, so you can watch it grow in your garden!
