We all heat our homes. We all use transport as part of our daily lives. As air travel has become less expensive, we fly more, so we each use more and more oil and gas.
The population of the world has grown. It continues to grow dramatically.

So the total use of fossil fuels grows even more horrendously – we can see it in the amount of CO2 in the air.
Sea levels and air temperatures are rising.

At the same time, we are killing our biggest allies against the effects of global warming. Globally we are now cutting down more trees than at any time in our history. We aren’t even planting replacements for those we do cut down.

Q1. Who will be affected?
Our children will be most affected. If we live long enough it could affect us also. We are already experiencing climate change.
Q2. What are the important facts?
54% of carbon emissions come from homes.
8% comes from road transport.
3% comes from air travel but this is growing quickly.
Within your home 81% of CO2 comes from heating (space and water) and almost 10% of all electricity is used by TVs, computers and appliances left on 'standby'.
Q3. What can I do?
Small changes can make a big difference. You can do something positive about going carbon neutral by planting trees through this web site.
Q4. What else is being said?
Experts are predicting that the worst affected regions will be the third world, because of droughts and famines. The recent Stern report has also predicted that the global economy will be seriously affected.
Q5. So what can business do?
Employers have a huge role to play. Every PC left on standby overnight uses the amount of electricity needed to make 1,000 cups of coffee. Low energy lights with sensors save energy. Why not get your company to go carbon neutral? Alternatively donate £1 per employee per month. Learn more about what companies can do at www.carbontrust.co.uk and www.energysavingtrust.org.uk.
Everyone has a role to play. It is important that we look at what we can do individually. As well as Global Trees, have a look at these links for further information and advice.
